It is a pleasure to be asked to say a few words about this timely book, which makes sense of the various societal, family, and individual issues regarding our dietary and lifestyle habits in today's modern society. Writing this foreward is an honor for me, to be able to contribute to a valuable and well-balanced synthesis of current issues and strategies for parents to influence children and teenagers to maintain a healthy relationship with food, as well as to make healthy lifestyle choices.
As a pediatrician and adolescent medicine specialist, I see first hand many children adolescents that are overweight and obese, struggling with maintaining a healthy weight, as well as suffering from cardio-vascular risk factors and Type 2 diabetes as complications. I have also worked with teenagers suffering from anorexia nervosa and bulimia. There are so many mixed messages about diets and dieting strategies present that it is difficult for the average and even the above average parent to make sense of it all for themselves or for their children. I am confident this book will serve as a useful reference for general information and practical strategies for addressing various lifestyle issues and problems for parents.
I applaud Dr Mary Friesz for writing such an essential volume of valuable information!!!
